Configuring Apple Mail on OS X for SSL IMAP / SMTP

To configure Apple Mail for SSL secured IMAP and SMTP access with Neomailbox, follow the steps below.

Open Mail, and select Mail > Add Account... from the main menu.

Select "Add Other Mail Account..." and click Continue.

In the window that appears, enter your Full Name, Neomailbox email address, and password, as below, and click Create:

Mail will display a message "Discovering Settings..." and will then display the message "Account must be manually configured". Click Next

Mail will then take you to the Incoming Mail Server configuration, which you should fill out with your account details, as below:

Click Next, then Mail will print "Signing in..." and "Verifying..."

After this the Outgoing Mail Server configuration window will appear. Fill out the details for the Outgoing Mail Server Info, as below:

Click Create, and Mail will then print "Signing in..." along with a spinning icon for a long time (5 minutes in our tests).

Be patient and don't click on Cancel. Eventually, a "Verifying..." message will appear for a few seconds and then the window will close itself. Your account is now added in Mail.

However we still need to change some settings for the account, so click on Mail > Preferences on the main menu:

Click on the Accounts tab and, in the left pane, select the Neomailbox account you just added:

You can change the Description field to something more descriptive of the account:

Then click on the selection list next to Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) and select "Edit SMTP Server List...":

Select your Neomailbox account from the list and click on the Advanced tab, and set the settings as below (Use custom port: 465). Make sure your username and password are entered in the respective fields, and click OK.

Your account is now set up. However, there's one more setting that you should change for better security. Click on the Viewing icon on the Preferences toolbar, and uncheck the check-box for "Display remote images in HTML messages", as below:

Close the Preferences window. A popup will ask if you want to save the changes made. Click Save.

That's it. You should now be able to send and receive email using Mail though your Neomailbox account.
